Cash payments and digital records: the October update

An October report describes cash tax instructions for telecoms alongside continued recording through CapitalPay.

Access Radio reported on 2 October that South Sudan’s government had directed Zain, MTN and Digitel to make tax payments in cash. The report also described a continuing role for CapitalPay in recording transactions through the digital tax system.

The instruction concerns the way the telecoms operators settle their tax obligations. Recording a transaction remains a separate part of the process: the payer, amount, date and reference need to be connected to the obligation being settled.

Keeping a clear payment record

Businesses should retain the instruction they received, the payment confirmation and the reference used. If a payment method changes, confirm the current process with the issuing authority before paying.
